                               Introduction

If you are in 5th form or 6th form, certainly, you are seeing the days to adulthood counting down. The uncertainty of the future seems to be staring you right in the face. It is time to choose a career path.

While many of your friends are talking about being a doctor, an Engineer, an accountant or a lawyer, you know the traditional professions, you are unsure of your career path.

Don't worry many of your peers are experiencing the same thing. In 5th form I was in the same position you were in and I didn't choose my career path until upper six.

In upper six i decided that I wanted to be an Attorney-At -Law. The road to the end was not a easy one, there was self doubt, ,financial struggles, crying, a lot of crying, but nevertheless I persevered through all these hurdles and eventually passed my last exam in the Norman Manley Law School.`

On your Journey you will likely have to jump over at least one hurdle. When hurdles appear in your line of vision just remember that if a person filled with self doubt can persevere and achieve her Legal Education Certificate and become an attorney, YOU CAN DO IT TOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets talk Finance !

It is crucial for parents, grandparents and other family members to save for the their children future. Unfortunately, many parents in Jamaica have not consider their children University Education until it too late and the child is often left without money for University tuition. This has placed a hurdle in many students career path and prevented them from acquiring a university degree.

Fortunately, students can  pay for their college tuition by applying for student loan. However, as the word said " loan"  which means that once you have completed your university degree you will be required to repay the loan.Students who wish to apply for student loan must create an account on  the Student Loan Bureau ( https://www.slbja.com/#).  In addition to creating an account on their website SLB requires students to have two adult to be  their  guarantor .These adult will be required to signed legal documents accepting responsibility of a Guarantor.

Click here  https://www.slbja.com/# to visit the Student Loan Bureau website to learn more about the student loan application .

I am well aware that many  students opt not  to take this option .Fortunately, there are few opportunity available to students.Students need to keep abreast of the scholarships that are available to them .Scholarships are available for viewing on the Ministry of Education Website , National Commercial Bank website and also in the  local news paper. In additional to these website students should also visit their local constituency and inquire whether there are any scholarship or financial aid available to them for Tertiary  Education .

Additional Information

Students must also keep in mind  that money will be needed for rent, books and bus fare.Every faculty require students to buy numerous of  text books for every course/subject These  text books are very expensive and therefore its advisable that student delay purchasing text books until the Lecturers inform the student of the crucial book on the book list .Doing it this way you will enable you to buy the most  important books and also save money.  I wish I had someone who had told me this because when I was in first year I purchased four expensive text books that I hardly used  and I also use the internet to search for information.

While text Books are normally a one time spending rent is not .If you are living in a parish that is not close to Kingston it would be necessary for you to  move to a location walking distance from school or one taxi away from school .As such when you call person inquiring about Renting a room u should ask them how far away from school the room is . for a single bed room in Kingston ranges from $12,000 to $26,000. For those students who wants a studio apartment  the range is  $20,000- $70,000. The earlier you look for rooms the chepest it willl be .Do not wait close to September to start look for arooms to rent because by that time the rooms would be either expensive or hard to find. The UWI ,Utec and the other Universities have hall facilities for their students.Visit the Universities website to view the price for the hall.
